Is there a way to find out when a coin was slabbed?

And more specifically for PCGS and NGC coins?
Thanks

Only come close by the slab type in condors thread. Neither provide dates in any way that I know of.

Send the coin in yourself and you will know when it slabbed. Other than that, a general range is about the best you can do in most cases.

Smartass reply: There should be a date on the original submission form.

    Serious reply: Not really.
For recently graded PCGS coins you could scroll through the shared orders pages until you find some serial numbers in the same range as you're trying to date. But as far as a sequential order of serial numbers that correspond to the date that a coin was graded, that information only exists at PCGS and they aren't letting go of it.
    When in doubt, don't.

No way can you tell when a coin was slabbed, except to trust the person who says they submitted the coin for grading.

  • It would be a good idea for the PCGS sugestion box. To add that on the title of their slabs, that info would be nice.

The TPG would have that information available if it ever became really important for any reason. An owners curiosity, IMO, would be enough of an important reason to give it out. Short of that, you can narrow it down by the type/generation of slab that the coin is housed in.

PCGS already has their Cert Verification, so why not also include the date the coin was graded. Sound pretty easy to me.

NGC will tell you if you call them. You can get a rough idea on when a coin was slabbed from the generation of holder it is in.
